Update 8:
Today's list of what doesn't work:
http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/quoteslookup?SYMBOL=IBM,INTC,VIAB,VZ
I have tried being nice. That hasn't worked. I have been a programmer for more than 50 years and I have never seen such sloppy work. Every day there are new and different stocks which don't work. There is absolutely no excuse for
this continuing problem.
Worse in my opinion is the lack of communication about what's going on. Is there anyone from Microsoft or the contractor who actually provides the webserver interface who can and will speak up? If not, some number of people should be FIRED!
When I say FIRED, I don't mean reassigned to a different project; I mean terminated WITH CAUSE IMMEDIATELY!
Every day I modify the list of stocks for which I try to obtain quotes. I rotate between the symbol, the company name, the ISIN, and the ISIN without the check digit until I find one that works. I then use that one until it doesn't work.
I wonder why the ISIN without the check digit should work but I have found that to happen.
The list of failures varies MINUTE BY MINUTE. When I first tried my list this morning, INTC worked. Then it did not. Then it did. Boy, this is fun. I might speculate that there are multiple servers providing the quote service and
that the list of acceptable entities (symbols, names, and ISINs) are either not synchronized at all or not synchronized correctly. This IS NOT rocket science. You (whoever is responsible for these problems) damn well ought (by now) to get it right
or should immediately go find somewhere else to work. You are in over your head and time is not going to solve your problems.
If I am totally confused and/or incorrect about what is going on, my apologies, but how could I possibly have any idea about what is happening based on the information you (and anyone else at Microsoft or the contractor) share?
It is way way PAST TIME to let us know what is going on and when we can expect a stable working service.
WAY BEYOND FRUSTRATED IN AUSTIN,
Norman
P.S. The problem with the names for CBS and LifePoint appearing as "0" has been fixed. The two copyright notices still say 2014 rather than 2015.
